Malta Residence and VISA Programme (MRVP)
The Malta Residence and Visa Programme (‘MRVP’) is Malta’s residence by investment scheme which has enjoyed huge success since its launch in 2015. The Residence and Visa Programme was developed for non-EU and non-EEA (European Economic Area) investors who are seeking to broaden their international investments.
The Programme, which is deemed to be one of the most attractive of its kind, by investors looking to acquire EU residence, grants successful applicants and their families, with the opportunity to take up residence in Malta indefinitely. The Residence Programme guarantees greater international mobility because applicants and their families would also enjoy Visa-free travel within the Schengen area with the right to remain in the area for up to 90 days in any 180 days period.
Malta has been a member of the European Union since 2004. In 2019, the European Commission described Malta’s economy as one of the most dynamic economies in the European Union, particularly due to its consistent growth which has resulted in a strong employment rate, increasing disposable income and a high standard of living. Malta’s Gross Domestic Product (‘GDP’) increased by 6.6% in 2018 and is set to continue rising by 4.9% in 2019.
Malta’s enviable warm climate together with the good level of education and health system, makes Malta a very good option. Malta also offers a number of fiscal and financial incentives, such as efficient, competitive and transparent tax system, investment aid and support for enhancement and workforce training.
To qualify, applicants must satisfy the terms of the Programme which include committing to invest in property in Malta and/or Gozo, by either purchasing or leasing such property.
The applicant would need to make a financial contribution to the Government of Malta and must invest in Maltese Government stocks or in other equity securities listed in the official list of the Malta Stock Exchange. Such investment must be held for a minimum period of five years from the date of the issuance of the Maltese residence certificate and may be satisfied by obtaining financing from a licensed financial institution.
A Malta Residence and Visa Programme application may only be made through an authorised registered mandatory, such as BDO Malta. BDO’s Team of specialists possess in-depth knowledge and experience of the related legislation and procedures to assist applicants and their dependants at every stage of the application process.
