About the role
Strategy
- Contribute from a Tax perspective to the formulation of strategic and policy direction for the Company and related entities under the BDO brand in Malta.
- Ensure that the required strategy, execution plans, operational metrics, policies, and tools are in place to successfully achieve the Company’s objectives.
- Develop and communicate a value proposition and go-to-market plan for services on a regular basis and work with other internal/external stakeholders to execute these plans.
- Prepare financial budgets, forecasts, performance reports and any other information required to keep the Board of Directors always informed and escalate matters requiring the Board’s attention.
- Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, develop and maintain a roadmap for Tax, aligned with the Company’s objectives as well as BDO’s overall objectives.
Operations
- Act as a key point of contact within the firm for the client. This will involve responding quickly to, as well as anticipating, client requests/needs, keeping clients informed of progress in relation to all aspects of the service provided, and maintaining regular contact with clients
- To take full responsibility for project delivery on Clients’ portfolios
- Manage a portfolio of clients including control of billings and cash collection within the firms criteria
- Review of work prepared by more junior members of staff
- Ensure assignments are completed within agreed budgets and keep client/partners informed of overruns and plan staff assignments in order to give an appropriate spread of experience
- Ensure that the firm’s quality control procedures are adhered to including second partner review
- Identify risk and technical matters, as well as selling opportunities, to the Partners, whilst exercising judgement within agreed parameters
- Work as part of management team with other tax managers within the business group, and provide support to the rest of the Tax team
- Participate in bids/proposals for new work
- Act as a liaison between the client and other specialist service groups within BDO
Business Development & Growth
- Cultivate and manage the marketing and business development of the Company including pro-actively preparing content for marketing purposes and helping the Marketing Manager to identify opportunities for effective promotion.
- Pro-actively evaluate the service portfolio of the Company from time to time to identify gaps in the Company’s service offering and identify the best approach to bring to market new services areas.
- Promote the company’s services at every opportunity and seek to cross-sell other services offered by BDO in general
- Be responsible for the further growth (organic and non-organic) and the development of the Company, including strengthening existing service lines and growing new business areas.
- Keep abreast of Tax trends and evolutions with a view to exploit opportunities for the Company.
- Identify opportunities and leverage the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the department to develop and provide better and more extensive service line offerings to clients.
Being an Ambassador
- Understand BDO and its service lines and actively assess/present ways to serve clients.
- Possess good business acumen.
- Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business.
- Be an Ambassador for BDO through having a strong presence at events, conferences, panel discussions etc. and engage in third party networking activities and organization of BDO business development/networking events.
People Management
- Act as a people manager by partnering with the organisation to attract the right talent and ensure that your team is staffed according to requirements and that all team members are fully utilised.
- Effectively manage both onshore and offshore resources.
- Provide constructive on-the-job feedback/coaching to team members.
- Foster an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment.
- Help grow the team through coaching and mentoring team members and sharing knowledge and experiences.
- Effectively identify professional training requirements for staff and arrange for its delivery.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals and goal setting with staff in line with Company Policy.
