Duties and responsibilities:

Strategy 
  • Lead the strategic development and positioning of the Company’s Indirect Tax services
  • Provide expert input on indirect tax matters (including VAT, customs, and excise duties) in shaping strategic and policy direction. 
  • Ensure that the necessary strategies, execution plans, policies, and tools are in place to grow and manage a successful Indirect Tax practice. 
  • Develop and communicate a strong value proposition and go-to-market plan specifically for Indirect Tax services. 
  • Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to ensure effective execution. 
  • Prepare and present financial budgets, forecasts, and performance reports for the Indirect Tax function; keep the Board of Directors informed on critical developments or issues requiring escalation. 
  • Align the Indirect Tax roadmap with both the Company’s long-term objectives and BDO’s global goals, ensuring cross-functional integration and consistency.

Operations  
  • Act as the principal contact for clients on all Indirect Tax matters, proactively identifying client needs, delivering tailored advice, and maintaining ongoing communication to ensure high service standards. 
  • Take full ownership of Indirect Tax service delivery across client portfolios, ensuring compliance, technical accuracy, and timely execution. 
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of clients with an emphasis on indirect tax compliance, advisory, and planning; oversee billing and collections within firm policies. 
  • Review technical work, reports, and advice prepared by junior team members, ensuring high standards of quality and client satisfaction. 
  • Plan and monitor assignment budgets and staff allocations, identifying and communicating any scope or budgetary deviations to clients and Board of Directors. 
  • Ensure adherence to the firm’s quality control processes, particularly for complex indirect tax matters. 
  • Identify opportunities and risks related to indirect tax; advise Board of Directors accordingly while exercising sound judgment within agreed parameters. 
  • Collaborate closely with other tax leaders and managers to deliver integrated tax solutions across disciplines. 
  • Lead or support proposal development and client pitches related to indirect tax advisory or compliance services. 
  • Liaise with other specialist service lines within BDO to provide holistic advice to clients on broader business and regulatory issues affected by indirect tax. 

BD & Growth
  • Cultivate the marketing and business development of the Service. 
  • Pro-actively evaluate the service portfolio of the Company from time to time to identify gaps in the Company’s service offering and identify the best approach to bring to market new services areas. 
  • Promote the company’s services at every opportunity and seek to cross-sell other services offered by BDO in general. 
  • Be responsible for the further growth and the development of the Company, including strengthening existing service lines and growing new business areas. 
  • Keep abreast of Tax trends and evolutions with a view to exploit opportunities for the Company. 
  • Identify opportunities and leverage the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the department to develop and provide better and more extensive service line offerings to clients. 

Being an Ambassador 
  • Understand BDO and its service lines and actively assess/present ways to serve clients. 
  • Possess good business acumen. 
  • Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business. 
  • Be an Ambassador for BDO through having a strong presence at events, conferences, panel discussions etc. and engage in third party networking activities and organization of BDO business development/networking events. 

People Management  
  • Act as a people manager by partnering with the organisation to attract the right talent and ensure that your team is staffed according to requirements and that all team members are fully utilised. 
  • Effectively manage resources. 
  • Provide constructive on-the-job feedback/coaching to team members. 
  • Foster an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment. 
  • Help grow the team through coaching and mentoring team members and sharing knowledge and experiences. 
  • Effectively identify professional training requirements for staff and arrange for its delivery. 
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and goal setting with staff in line with Company Policy.
