Strategy

  • Contribute to the formulation of strategic and policy direction for BDO’s Legal services business unit
  • Ensure that the required strategy, execution plans, operational metrics, policies, and tools are in place to successfully achieve the business unit objectives.


Operations

  • Act as a key point of contact within the firm for the client. This will involve responding quickly to, as well as anticipating, client requests/needs, keeping clients informed of progress in relation to all aspects of the service provided, and maintaining regular contact with clients
  • Take full responsibility for project delivery and client portfolio management.
  • Review, approve and draft agreements and other legal documents to ensure that these are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
  • Ensure assignments are completed within agreed budgets and keep client/partners informed of overruns and plan staff assignments in order to give an appropriate spread of experience
  • Liaise with other departments within the Firm to carry out legal engagements, assessments or opinions, in relation to specific areas of business.
  • Direct and assign other members of your team on client engagements.
  • Review any work carried out by junior members and provide the necessary mentorship for their professional development.
  • Cooperate and coordinate as necessary with other members of the Legal department.
  • Must be able to identify business development opportunities and work with Executive Management to develop these when they arise
  • Support the further growth and the development of the Legal Services function
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals for new engagements.
  • Develop relationships with clients at senior level and maintain contact with other levels as appropriate to ensure the firm has the confidence of the client.
  • Act as a liaison between the client and other specialist service groups within BDO
  • Consult with colleagues and Partners on technical and risk matters
  • Ensure that the firm’s quality control procedures are adhered to Perform any other duties which may be assigned from time to time, and which fall within the competence of employee
  • Providing in-house counsel to Executive management to ensure compliance with existing legal and regulatory requirements.


BDO & Growth

  • Pro-actively evaluate the service portfolio of the business unit from time to time to identify gaps in the service offering and identify the best approach to bring to market new services areas.
  • Promote the company’s services at every opportunity and seek to cross-sell other services offered by BDO in general
  • Be responsible for the further growth and the development of the business unit, including strengthening existing service lines and growing new business areas.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends with a view to exploit opportunities .
  • Be an Ambassador for BDO through having a strong presence at events, conferences, panel discussions etc. and engage in third party networking activities and organization of BDO business development/networking events.


People Management 

  • Act as a people manager by partnering with the organisation to attract the right talent and ensure that your team is staffed according to requirements and that all team members are fully utilised.
  • Provide constructive on-the-job feedback/coaching to team members.
  • Foster an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment.
  • Help grow the team through coaching and mentoring team members and sharing knowledge and experiences.
  • Effectively identify professional training requirements for staff and arrange for its delivery.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and goal setting with staff in line with Company Policy.


Required Skills, Qualification and Experience: 

  • A fully qualified lawyer, with a warrant to practice under Maltese law.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a similar role
