FinanceMalta is hosting a morning seminar on the 3rd April covering innovative technology arrangements and challenges in Anti-Money Laundering (AML). The breakfast seminar forms part of the BlockFinance series of educational seminars and will be held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel in Attard.
BDO Malta Risk & Compliance Manager, Dr Rakele Cini is delighted to be addressing the seminar and will present delegates with an update of the FATF recommendations on virtual assets and EU initiatives. Dr Cini stated: “This is very topical: there are regulatory and industry changes not just locally, but equally importantly at an EU and international level”.
The seminar will be moderated by Dr Max Ganado and will see the participation of several other industry professionals. Dr Ganado will open the proceedings with a presentation about the landscape in the innovative technology arrangements, which will be followed by a presentation on ‘The FIAU regulations and its guidelines’ by Jonathan Phyall from the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU).
FinanceMalta Chairman, Mr Kenneth Farrugia stated: “We’re constantly making sure that the industry is up-to-date with all the latest advancements in fintech, including the challenges. One of these challenges is AML compliance obligations, which today remains high on the agenda in any discussion on financial services.”
The latter part of the seminar will feature a presentation by Christos Efthymiopoulos from the MFSA, who will discuss the laws and the guidelines regarding Blockchain, how they will improve the situation with AML/CFT and how (what?) more can be done.
A panel including Assistant Commissioner of Police Ian Abdilla representing the Economic Crimes Unit, Jonathan Galea from the Blockchain Advisory, Manfred Galdes from FFF Legal and Federica Taccogna from FTI Consulting Ltd will discuss the positioning of institutions and future challenges in Malta.
