BDO Malta Contributes to Food Bank Lifeline & Visits Elderly Homes.

20 December 2019

BDO is taking part in the Food Bank Lifeline Foundation which contributes towards an important initiative to put an end to hunger in Malta.

The foundation requires companies in Malta to provide at least one non-perishable food item in a box every day between the 1st and the 24th of December. Each box will feed a family for up to 7 days. This initiative was launched to help individuals, couples and families, regardless of religion, race or gender, who find themselves in short-term crisis through the provision of emergency food supplies. Therefore, companies who are participating in this initiative  are providing thousands of people with food and security over Christmas.

Foodbank Lifeline Foundation has several supporters, that help out with regular donations of food and money, having around € 20,000 worth of food being delivered every month. The Reverse Advent Calendar is Food Bank’s primary annual campaign to raise awareness about its cause. Foods that BDO donated are those which do not expire quickly such as fruit juice, cooking oil, tinned tomatoes, baked beans and so on…

Adding to this Corporate Social Responsibility initative, BDO Malta has also visited 5 elderly homes around Malta, specifically those in Floriana, Mosta, Msida, Mtarfa and Mellieha. BDO asked elderly people at these homes what they would like as gifts for Christmas and bought them what they wished for, along with giving them some extra pocket money. Despite all this, the most rewarding gesture for these people was the fact that BDO’s people spent a couple of days during December visiting these homes in order to deliver the presents to them personally and spend some time with those that did not have many visitors along the year.  Christmas gifts included shoes, trousers, tops, jackets, sweatshirts, tracksuits, underwear, Radio, TV sets, alarm clocks, razor, bed slippers, cardigans and Eau de toilette.
