Swedish Parliament approves Gaming Bill
13 June 2018
Sweden’s Parliament has officially approved the bill “A re-regulated gambling market”. The new legislation makes it mandatory for remote gaming companies operating gambling services in Sweden to apply for, and hold, a Swedish licence. Applications for online gambling licenses will start to be received by the national gambling regulator Lotteriinspektionen from August 1, 2018 while the new licensing regime will come into force on January 1st, 2019.
Online gaming companies operating without a valid Swedish licence after the 1st January 2019 risk penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment.
The Licencing and Compliance Department at BDO Malta can assist online gaming companies in preparing and submitting the licence application for a Swedish licence.
