Issue of Sector Specific Guidance for the Remote Gaming Sector

Dr Rakele Cini , Risk and Compliance Manager |

19 July 2018

On 19 July 2018, after various consultation periods, the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU), in conjunction with the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), issued the new Implementing Procedures – Part II addressed to the remote gaming sector.

This key document offers sector-specific guidance to all remote gaming licencees (i.e. anyone who is licensed to provide a service involving the wagering of a stake with monetary value in games of chance, including those with an element of skill, via electronic means of distance communication upon request from the recipient of said services, with the opportunity to win prizes of money or money’s worth) which have, since January 2018, become subject persons in terms of the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations (S.L. 373.02).

This document, which is to be read in conjunction with the existing Part I Implementing Procedures, is deemed to have come into force on this same day.
